I have conducted groups with jazz artists in them such as Dizzy Gillespie, Mercer Ellington, Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson, Bob Mintzer, Gordon Goodwin, Eddie Palmieri, John Faddis, Bobby Shew, Bill Watrus, Matt Harris, Jeff Coffin, Wayne Bergeron, Toshiko Akiyoshi and many others.

Since I was a professional drummer and percussionist in numerous groups and bands for more than forty years, I know how parts and particularly drum parts SHOULD be written. Also a staff musician and engineer in recording studios in Cleveland (Ohio), Chicago and Tennessee.

Let me know if you would like contact info for the directors of the groups for whom I have arranged/composed to get their comments or recommendations.

Since your music is custom-created, the process begins with a discussion about what you exactly want.  If you want a "lead sheet" for getting your original music copyrighted, then I will need a good-quality recording of your song and a "word file" of your lyrics. I will help you with the process of obtaining a copyright, which costs $35 payable to the U.S. Copyright office, which is in addition to my fees.

If you want something written for your group then I will need the group's instrumentation, ability level, strong/weak players or sections, the purpose the piece is to serve, how long you want the piece to be, and the time frame when you need the score/parts/MP3-PDFs of the piece.

The price is determined by those previous factors and can range from $50 to $250 per performance minute, and much depends on if it for a non-profit or school..  Also, the more individual instrumental parts, the higher the price. A new composition can also cost more, and the price can also be affected by how quickly you need the work done. Getting a project within a week is possible.

For "lead sheet" preparation you will be provided what meets the needs of the US copyright office for musical compositions. The "lead sheet" can be used for a singer and other musicians to play your music.. If you want an accompaniment CD for someone to perform to, then that is also an option.

If your are commissioning a work for bands you will be provided an MP3 file (as heard on the samples on the website's pages) and PDF files for you to print the parts and score. There is an additional charge if you want me to print a set of the individual parts/score, or print and "tape" a full set of part/score.

Music in "public domain", or music for which I own the copyright on this website is for sale and prices are listed next to those projects.
